How it works

  1. Choose whether you want to enter counts or paste individual scores.
  2. Enter the number of promoters (9–10), passives (7–8) and detractors (0–6), or paste the 0–10 answers.
  3. Read your NPS, the share of each group and the margin of error for your sample size.
  4. In paste mode, check the score distribution to see where answers cluster.

FAQ

How is NPS calculated?

NPS = % promoters (scores 9–10) − % detractors (scores 0–6). Passives (7–8) count toward the total but not toward either group. The result ranges from −100 to +100.

Is NPS a percentage?

No. It is the difference between two percentages, so it is reported as a plain number such as +32, not 32 %.

How many responses do I need for a reliable NPS?

There is no magic number, but the margin of error shrinks as responses grow. With a few dozen answers it is often ±15 points or more, so compare trends over time rather than reading too much into small changes.

How is the margin of error calculated?

The calculator uses the standard approximation for a difference of proportions: 1.96 × √((p + d − (p − d)²) ÷ n) × 100, where p and d are the promoter and detractor shares and n the number of responses.
